Quick answer: LIC HFL does not publish a single “minimum” CIBIL score: its rate card covers scores from 825 and above (best rate, 7.15% salaried) down to 201–599 (9.70%), and it also prices new-to-credit applicants. In practice, a score of 750 or more makes approval smoother and keeps the rate under 7.80%. In a joint loan, LIC HFL uses the highest score among the applicants.

I have never taken a loan. Can I get an LIC HFL home loan?
Yes. If you have no credit history, CIBIL gives a separate new-to-credit score between 101 and 200. LIC HFL has rates for these scores too:
| New-to-credit score | Loan up to ₹35 lakh | ₹35 lakh to ₹2 crore |
|---|---|---|
| 150–200 | 7.80% | 7.90% |
| 101–149 | 8.10% | 8.20% |
These are salaried rates; self-employed rates are 0.15–0.25% higher. Your income and documents still decide the loan amount.
Which score counts in a joint home loan?
LIC HFL considers the highest CIBIL score among the joint applicants when fixing the rate. If your spouse’s score is better than yours, applying together can lower the rate for the whole loan. LIC HFL still reviews every applicant’s repayment history. See joint home loan with spouse.
What lowers a CIBIL score?
- Late or missed EMIs and credit card payments, especially in the last 12 months
- Settled or written-off loans
- Using most of your credit card limit every month
- Many loan or card applications in a short time
- Errors in your report, such as a closed loan still shown as open
How to improve your score before applying
- Pay every EMI and card bill on time; set up auto-debit.
- Keep card usage below about a third of the limit.
- Close small personal loans or clear overdue amounts.
- Check your report once a year for free and raise a dispute with CIBIL for any error.
- Avoid new loan or card applications for a few months before the home loan.

Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum CIBIL score for an LIC home loan?
LIC HFL’s rate card includes scores down to 201–599, so there is no single published cut-off. Approval depends on your full profile; 750 or more gives the smoothest approval and a rate below 7.80% for salaried borrowers.
Is CIBIL 700 enough for a home loan?
Yes, usually. At 700–724 LIC HFL’s salaried rate is 8.10%, about 0.95% above the best rate.
Does checking my own CIBIL score reduce it?
No. Checking your own report is a soft enquiry and does not affect the score. Applications to lenders are hard enquiries.
Does a self-employed borrower need a higher score?
No, but the rate in every band is 0.15–0.25% higher. See LIC HFL home loan for self-employed.
