Quick answer: CKYC (Central KYC) is one shared KYC record kept by the Central KYC Records Registry for banks, housing finance companies, insurers and mutual funds. Each person gets a 14-digit CKYC number (KIN). Get yours by a missed call to 7799022129 from your registered mobile, or view your CKYC card on ckycindia.in. Share the number when you apply so your KYC can be fetched online.
By Vijay Arjun V (B.Pharm, PGDM), authorised LIC HFL DSA since 2002. Facts checked against RBI’s KYC directions and the CKYC registry’s published notice on 14 October 2026.
What is CKYC?
CKYC stands for Central Know Your Customer. When you complete KYC with any regulated financial institution (a bank, LIC Housing Finance, an insurer or a mutual fund), your KYC details and photo are uploaded to the Central KYC Records Registry (CKYCRR), run by CERSAI under the Prevention of Money Laundering Rules. The registry then gives you a unique KYC Identifier Number (KIN), also called the CKYC number.
- One record, reused: the next institution can fetch your KYC from the registry instead of collecting the same documents again.
- 14 digits: your CKYC number is a 14-digit identifier.
- CKYC card: a one-page summary of your CKYC record (number, name, photo and address). It is a reference, not an identity proof; you still need your PAN, Aadhaar and other documents.
Why check your CKYC before applying for a home loan?
- Faster KYC: under RBI’s KYC directions, once you give your CKYC number and consent, the lender retrieves your KYC online. You are not asked to submit the same KYC documents again unless your details have changed, your current address needs verifying, or the lender needs extra checks.
- Catch mistakes early: an old address, a misspelt name or a wrong date of birth in your CKYC record will clash with your PAN, Aadhaar or the sale deed. Fixing it before you apply avoids queries later.
- Ready for joint applicants: each co-applicant has a separate CKYC record. Ask your spouse or co-applicant to check theirs too; see joint home loan with spouse.
CKYC covers identity and address only. Your income documents, bank statements and property papers are still needed; see documents required for a home loan.
How to find your CKYC number and download your CKYC card
| Method | What to do | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Missed call | From the mobile number registered with your CKYC record, give a missed call to the toll-free number 7799022129 | Your CKYC number by SMS |
| CKYC registry portal | Go to ckycindia.in, choose the option to view your CKYC card, enter your registered mobile number and verify the OTP | A link to view and save your CKYC card |
| Your bank, insurer or fund house | Look in the KYC or profile section of your net banking or app, or in welcome letters and statements | Your CKYC number, often partly masked |
| DigiLocker (where available) | Search for the Central KYC Records Registry among issued documents and link your record | Your CKYC card stored in DigiLocker |
Step by step on the CKYC portal:
- Open www.ckycindia.in (type it yourself; don’t use links from unknown messages).
- Select the option to view or get your CKYC card.
- Enter the mobile number registered with your CKYC record and the captcha.
- Enter the OTP sent to that mobile.
- Open the link you receive, confirm the details asked for (such as date of birth), and save the card as a PDF.
If your registered mobile has changed, the OTP and missed-call routes won’t work; update your mobile number through a bank or institution you already have KYC with.
What if you don’t have a CKYC number?
Many people who opened bank accounts or bought insurance after 2017 already have one without knowing it. If you don’t, nothing is lost: LIC HFL completes your KYC with your PAN, Aadhaar and address proof when you apply, and a CKYC number is generated for you through that process.
What if the details in your CKYC record are wrong?
Update them through any regulated institution you deal with, usually your bank: submit fresh KYC documents (PAN, Aadhaar, current address proof) and ask them to update your CKYC record. Do this a few weeks before you apply for the loan, and make sure your name and date of birth match across PAN, Aadhaar, your bank account and the property documents.
Stay safe with CKYC
- Checking your CKYC number and card through the official missed-call number or ckycindia.in is free; don’t pay anyone to “get” or “update” your CKYC.
- Never share an OTP, bank password, card PIN or UPI PIN with a caller who says they are updating your KYC.
- Share your CKYC number only with the lender (or its authorised DSA) when you actually apply.
Your home loan KYC checklist
- PAN card and Aadhaar card for every applicant (passport for NRIs; see NRI home loans)
- CKYC number of each applicant, if you have one
- Current address proof, if it differs from your Aadhaar
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Name and date of birth matching across all documents

Frequently asked questions
Is CKYC mandatory for a home loan?
You don’t apply for CKYC separately. Lenders regulated by RBI, including housing finance companies like LIC HFL, must upload customers’ KYC to the registry and can fetch existing records from it. Having your CKYC number ready simply makes your KYC quicker.
Is CKYC the same as Aadhaar eKYC?
No. Aadhaar eKYC verifies your identity with UIDAI at that moment. CKYC is a stored KYC record that regulated institutions share, with its own 14-digit number.
Does CKYC affect my CIBIL score?
No. CKYC holds identity and address details only. Your CIBIL score comes from your loan and credit card repayment history; see home loan with a low CIBIL score.
Can NRIs have a CKYC number?
Yes, if they have completed KYC with an Indian bank, insurer or fund house. NRIs applying for an LIC HFL home loan also need their passport.
I lost my CKYC card. How do I get it again?
Download it again on ckycindia.in with your registered mobile, or give a missed call to 7799022129 to get the number by SMS.
